Robyn – Robyn

Written by:Helen
This Swedish pop artist is far from new to the music scene, since being signed to a major label at 16 she has suffered the trials and tribulations of the music industry. This is evident in her new self titled release, “Robyn.” There are flavors of inspiration from Swedish groups “The Knife” and “Teddybear.” This electronic pop album offers honesty in the lyrics with originality in the music, although “Cobrastyle” is a Teddybears cover, Robyn’s take is arguably better than the original and is my reason for buying the album.

To most people who know me and my taste in music this may have come as a surprise, pop let alone electronic pop is not normally my style of music but to be completely honest, I saw her perform on The View … yes I was watching The View … and I was so entertained that I hopped onto iTunes and grabbed the album. The song she performed was “Cobrastyle” and I expected more of the same edgier pop but found myself (pleasantly) surprised that there were sweet sounding songs mixed in. While I did like this album overall, it hasn’t yet made heavy rotation in my music collection and thus gets a three star.
